Provisional Course Details

Introduction and Overview of TEMA

TEMA exchanger types; constructional details; operational aspects; flange design considerations & minimum tubesheet thickness.

U-Tube Exchangers Tubesheet Design: UHX-12

Derivation of design parameters, influence of edge bolting, tubesheet extension thickness.

Floating Head Exchanger Tubesheet Design: UHX-14

Derivation of design parameters; design of floating tubesheets with edge bolting (T type), floating tubesheet extension thickness (T type); floating head cover and backing ring design.

Fixed Tubesheet Exchanger Tubesheet Design: UHX-13

Derivation of design parameters; influence of edge bolting; derivation of shellside design pressure; derivation of tubeside design pressure; tubesheet extension thickness; shell and tube longitudinal stresses; tube to tubesheet joints.

Other Design Aspects

Tube end loads, entrance area calculations; establishing mean metal temperatures; pass partition design.

Comprehensive course notes are provided together with worked examples to show the application of principal Code rules.

The combined TEMA / ASME Section VIII Division 1 UHX course is designed to be a stand alone one day course covering the application of the Code rules for the design and construction of components specific to shell and tube heat exchangers. This course does not address the rules for design of the pressure envelope or flanges which are covered in our standard ASME course. Delegates should have a basic understanding of the ASME Code before attending this course.
